Privacy Policy

Shio Studios ("Shio Studios", "we", "us") is an indie video game studio based near Amsterdam. This policy explains what personal data we collect through our website (shiostudios.com) and our games — including The Mystery Sisters, Bars & Bruises and Life on the Grind — across web, iOS, Android, Android TV, Apple TV, Xbox and any other platform we publish on, and what choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Our games are built to be played without an account, and we keep the data we collect to a minimum:

Gameplay data stored on your device. Save files, progress, settings and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not receive or store this data on our servers unless a specific feature (below) says otherwise.
Multiplayer connections. Where a game offers peer-to-peer multiplayer (for example, Life on the Grind), we run a signaling server whose only job is to introduce two players' devices to each other over a direct WebRTC connection. The signaling server sees temporary connection identifiers, not your gameplay or personal data, and does not store chat or session content.
Contact information you provide. If you email us or use a contact form, we receive what you send us (typically your email address and message).
Platform and store data. App stores and platform providers (Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc.) may collect basic technical and diagnostic information as part of normal store operation — such as crash logs, device type, OS version, and download/install statistics — under their own privacy policies. We may receive this information only in aggregate, anonymized form.
Website server logs. Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure logs standard technical request data (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and reliability. We do not run third-party advertising or analytics trackers on shiostudios.com.

2. How we use information

To operate and provide our games and website;
To connect players to each other for peer-to-peer multiplayer;
To respond to support requests and other communications you send us;
To understand aggregate, anonymized install and stability trends shared by app stores, so we can fix bugs and improve our games;
To meet legal and security obligations.

3. Sharing of information

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising purposes. We share information only with the app store or platform you downloaded a game from (as part of normal distribution), with service providers who host our infrastructure, or where required by law.

4. Data retention

Gameplay save data lives on your device and is retained for as long as you keep the game installed, or until you delete it. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable follow-up period.

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Since most gameplay data never reaches us, this mainly applies to information you've sent us directly (such as support emails). To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

6. Children's privacy

Our games are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever we do.
